Cremant de Bourgogne NV - Paul Robin, Burgundy
A Champagne look-alike made from 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay in Burgundy, this Cremant has intense toasty almond aromas with a ripe, mouth-filling palate and persistent mousse.
As with still wine, the quality of the grapes is crucial to the quality of the finished wine. In general, the better sparkling wines are made in the same way as champagne, by what is known as the traditional method. This involves a second fermentation in the closed wine bottle. Our Cremant de Bourgogne and Cava are made in this way.
Less expensive but still great value for money wines are made by what is known as the tank method, whereby the second fermentation takes place in a tank before the wine is bottled under pressure. Fine examples of this style of winemaking include our popular Comte de Neufchatel.
