Château Cantemerle 2008 - Grand Cru Classé 1855, Haut Medoc, Bordeaux
Currant bush and berries on the nose. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins, bright acidity and a clean, fruity finish.
Cantemerle is a grand old estate with a venerable history dating back to the 1570s and a magnificent Château set in an impressive park, although this was sadly damaged by the ferocious storms of 1999. In the last twenty years the estate has expanded considerably and a lot of work has gone in to modernising the winemaking process. The result is a wine of undoubted class and elegance but never great weight (thanks to its fine, grainy soil), capable of ageing extremely well and thoroughly deserving of its fifth growth status.
